Life & Classification
Biology - Bios = life; Logos = study - is the study of living organisms. All living organisms share common characteristics - the characteristics of life. These characteristics are used to distinguish between living organisms and non-living things including dead organisms. Living organisms are diverse in their form (morphology), activities and molecular composition. Classification makes it easier to study living organisms and this can be done on the basis of similarities and differences.
The Natural System of Classification proposed by Carl Linnaeus has served as the traditional system of classification worldwide. The two components of Linnaeus' classification are taxonomy and binomial nomenclature.
